Air pollution is the leading environmental risk factor for poor health and premature deaths globally. Air pollution is the second largest risk factor for death worldwide, with nearly 8 million attributable deaths. Unfortunately, to date, there has been limited investment in air pollution research and clean air programs in Africa.
In the run-up to the Africa Clean Air Forum 2026, Health Effects Institute, in partnership with the Pan-African Thoracic Society, Makerere Lung Institute, Africa Clean Air Network, and South African Medical Research Council, are organizing a 90-minute webinar to highlight the health impacts of air pollution across Africa, and the opportunity for significant dividends for health and wellbeing through investment in clean air actions.
