Public Webinar and Build Up to CLEAN-Air Forum

Background

The sixth session of the UN Environment Assembly (UNEA-6) recently adopted a resolution on “promoting regional cooperation on air pollution to improve air quality globally”. This resolution was adopted by the member states and aligns with the philosophy for enhancing capacity for the regional communities of practice for better air quality. This webinar aims to advance the gains from the UNEA-6 outcome, particularly unpacking the role and implications of transdisciplinary partnerships, collaborations and regional cooperation for African cities and the global south. The webinar is positioned to precede the CLEAN-Air Forum to be hosted in Lagos, Nigeria. The Forum convenes transdisciplinary communities of practice in Africa to provide a shared platform for knowledge sharing, collaborations and multi-regional partnerships that particularly emphasize the need to strengthen regional networks for sustained interventions.

Presentation and key discussion points:

  1. What is unique about air quality in African cities, and what should we know about the emerging evidence on health impacts?
  2. What are the capacity needs for adopting new approaches for tackling air pollution?
  3. How can we effectively convene transdisciplinary regional communities of practice?
  4. What are the lessons from deploying low-cost data infrastructure and digital platforms for cross-border collaborations?
  5. What kind of policy environment can advance multi-regional collaborations?
