AfriCAN Internship

The Africa Clean Air Network (AfriCAN) unites partners across disciplines, sectors and borders to support clean air efforts across Africa. We seek motivated candidates with an interest in the topic of air quality for a remote, six-month paid internship opportunity. 

The internship program is part of AfriCAN’s commitment to support and strengthen capacity within the continent, and we welcome candidates from a range of disciplines. The initial appointment will be for a six-month period. This is a part-time position (25 hours/week) with a start date of December 1, 2025. 

Responsibilities: The intern will work closely with the AfriCAN secretariat and the network co-facilitators.  

Coordination (50%) 

  • Partner engagement, including outreach and coordination on new partner applications and existing network partners 
  • Project management, including note-taking, for key AfriCAN initiatives
  • Email communication with peer editors and authors for the Clean Air Journal Special Issue 
  • Attend periodic planning and evaluation meetings

Outreach and engagement (50%) 

  • Coordinate with the secretariat to develop content for a range of communications channels, including the website, blogs, videos, social media, press releases, and newsletters. 
  • Administrative support for organizing outreach activities, e.g., webinars, workshops and dialogues. 
  • Track and update the events database, including compilation of partner-led events.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must currently reside in a country in Africa. 
  • Language: English (required); fluency in French strongly preferred. 
  • Students pursuing Master’s or PhD degrees in Environmental Sciences, including air quality, environmental health or environmental policy and related disciplines. Recent graduates are also welcome. 
  • Prior work experience is not a requirement.  

Skills 

  • Must be proficient in Google Suites and Microsoft Office (especially Word and Excel)
  • Strong writing and science communication skills; prior publication experience is preferred. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively. 
  • Ability to learn quickly and operate well in a fast-moving, collaborative environment. 
  • Flexibility to work across time zones.
